Introduction
The Buffalo Bills have always had a special bond with Canada, especially southern Ontario. While every NFL team has fans across borders, the Bills’ closeness to Canada and their active effort to build that connection make their relationship unique. Buffalo is only about a two-hour drive from Toronto, and over the years, thousands of Canadians have become loyal members of the Bills Mafia.

Shared Fan Base
Because of geography, southern Ontario naturally became part of the Bills’ fan community. Many Canadians grew up watching Buffalo games on TV or making weekend trips to Highmark Stadium. The Bills even had Canadian season-ticket holders and radio partners in Toronto. Their games have aired on Canadian networks for years, and game days in Buffalo often see a noticeable wave of fans crossing the border. For many Canadians, supporting the Bills feels like cheering for a local team.

The “Toronto Series”
Between 2008 and 2014, the Bills tried something bold: they played several “home” games in Toronto at the Rogers Centre, known then as the SkyDome. The idea was to grow their brand, attract new fans, and tap into Canada’s biggest market. But as time went on, challenges emerged. Tickets were expensive, the atmosphere didn’t feel quite the same as a Buffalo home game, and fans in Buffalo felt like they were losing out.

Partnership & Community
- In 2025, the Bills took a new approach by partnering with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), the group behind the Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC, and Toronto Argonauts. Instead of moving games north, this partnership focuses on building community and fan engagement.
- Together, they plan to host youth football camps with the Argonauts, launch exclusive Bills merchandise in Canada, and organize official watch parties in Toronto venues like Real Sports Bar & Grill. It’s a way to strengthen ties with Canadian fans without taking away from Buffalo’s home advantage.
Why the Bills Matter to Canada
- Canada is a key growth market for the Bills. The team’s home region around Buffalo is relatively small, so expanding into southern Ontario helps them reach millions of potential fans and sponsors. The cross-border connection also helps with broadcasting, merchandise, and community engagement.
- The Bills have long viewed southern Ontario as part of their natural territory. That’s one reason why they’ve kept such a strong presence in Canada, even when other cities have expressed interest in bringing an NFL team north.
